How Pakistan’s Google Chromebook Assembly Line Will Cut Student Costs

Pakistan launches its first Google Chromebook assembly line to produce affordable devices for education and public sectors.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar opened the production unit at the NRTC plant in Haripur during a ceremony in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The plant targets output of 500,000 units per year by 2026. The laptops will focus on schools and government offices.

Key Partnerships and Future Goals

Dar said the project aligns with the Digital Pakistan plan and AI strategy. “Our policy is aimed at making Pakistan a regional hub for technology development backed by regulatory framework that supports innovation and encourages investment,” he stated. It will generate employment, build local supply networks, and support exports.

Google plans to set up an office in Pakistan. The office will connect local startups with international resources. An agreement with Google covers training for 100,000 programmers across the country. It also includes development of AI tools for services like emergency response on Android.

Dar confirmed policies to attract foreign tech firms. Steps include tax adjustments to establish Pakistan as a tech center in the region. IT Minister Shaza Fatima described the project as a link between hardware production and learning. She promised faster progress in digital initiatives. Google Pakistan head Farhan Qureshi stated the office will drive partnerships and growth.
