The newly operational Chromebook assembly line at the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) facility in Haripur can produce up to 500,000 units per year. The government is also exploring options to export these devices globally
The milestone follows the opening of Google’s first official office in Pakistan. It was inaugurated during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and a Google delegation
Key Highlights of the IT Sector Growth
Export Boost
IT exports reached $417 million in July 2026. It marked an 18% year on year increase.
High Net Revenue
Tech exports generated a trade surplus of 85% to 86%. It kept most earnings inside the country because it does not require heavy machinery imports.
Freelance Economy
Pakistan’s freelancing earnings passed $1 billion this year, supporting continuous 20% annual growth in tech services over the past two and a half years.
Training and Certifications
Over 350,000 Pakistanis completed Google certifications. The government is also training 3,000 public officials, 50,000 gaming developers and thousands of participants under the “Learn AI” program.
Federal Minister for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja noted that major tech brands opening local offices reflects growing international confidence in Pakistan’s digital economy.
