According to a report by Jang News, the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) has announced a new Karachi kitchen waste biogas project to produce cooking gas from household waste. An awareness campaign will soon begin to guide citizens on separating kitchen waste and using it for biogas production.
The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by SSWMB Managing Director Tariq Ali Nizamani. The meeting was attended by Bio Tech Fuels CEO Mustafa Siraj, Director Dr. Mujahid, Deputy Director Aftab Ahmed, and EHWMS CEO Zia Zaberi. Officials discussed the pilot plan to convert organic kitchen waste into usable gas.
Nizamani said that the Karachi biogas pilot project will introduce small household biogas units to generate energy from kitchen waste. Under this plan, Bio Tech Fuels will collect kitchen waste and produce gas for cooking. An MoU between SSWMB and Bio Tech Fuels will be signed soon to launch the project and public awareness drive.
The kitchen waste biogas project in Karachi will initially start in one or two neighbourhoods, covering 150 to 200 homes. If successful, the project will expand to other areas of Karachi to reduce household waste and promote clean energy generation.
According to officials, the Karachi kitchen waste biogas project will develop a lasting waste management and cooking gas generation plan in the city.
